Description:

Size: 12.5 inches

Abundance:• Common in southern Texas

Quick Identification:
• Bright green overall
• Underside of flight feathers yellowish
• Grayish skin around eyes
• Long, pointed tail
• Often has orange flecks on throat


Habitat:

Found in Mexico and northern Central America in deciduous and pine forests. Established in southern Texas. Common in Brownsville suburbs. Recently added to Texas checklist. Added to American Birding Association checklist (finally) in November, 1999.

: Aratinga holochlora GREEN PARAKEET. Open woodland, pine forest, humid forest, farmland. Lowlands and mts. to 2200 m. Three disjunct populations in Mexico: Sw Chihuahua, se Sonora and ne Sinaloa. From se Nuevo León and c,s Tamaulipas s to e San Luis Potosí, e Guanajuato, e México, Puebla and n,c Veracruz. Extreme s Veracruz, extreme e Oaxaca, c Chiapas and possibly cw Guatemala.
